... but money really has nothing to do with Vegan Month of Food, does it?
(Well, I do have to buy tofu and vital wheat gluten - but I digress!)
Yep, here I am blowing cyber-dust off my poor neglected blog in time for another MoFo. When last I left you, intrepid followers, I was several months pregnant and a gestational diabetic. I'm happy to say that I now have normal blood sugar and a beautiful six-month-old son.
I also have left my vegetarianism behind.
I wanted to keep on the straight and narrow, but for a bunch of important and/or lazy reasons I've let myself lapse in 2011. But now that my littlest one is starting to eat real food, I'm starting to consider my own food choices again. I think I want to get back into the veg-life. But I need a little kick in the ass to get me going.
I wish I was more altruistic, because MoFo is all about sharing. But I'm really doing this for me. October is going to be my month to cook all of my old veg*n favorites (and a few new yummies). I'm trying to remind myself of how delicious vegetarian food can truly be, and how easy it is to put a veggie meal on the table. A lot of my favorites are vegan, too, so MoFo and I are fitting each other like gloves this year.
I've also found out recently that I work better with some kind of a schedule, so here's the rough outline for the next four weeks:
Mondays are "Sweet-y" : Vegan desserts are the bomb, so why not start the week off the sweet way. (Warning: May contain pumpkin).
Tuesdays are "Meaty" : Most of my favorite meat subs are home-made and vegan. I'll be whipping up all my favorites this month.
Wednesdays are "Doughy" : I've been baking bread like nobody's business for the last couple of months, and I've found that most of my favorites are vegan or easily made that way. I also have a new recipe up my sleeve that will either be delicious or disastrous (Warning: May also contain pumpkin).
Thursdays are "Snack-y" : I love me some nibbles. There are a couple of recipes I've been dying to try, and now's the time, baby.
Fridays are "Fry Day" : It's time to branch out from potatoes, be they sweet or otherwise. I need to try making new things to accompany my veggie burgers. (Warning: Will probably not contain pumpkin).
Will I be eating 100% vegan beyond this schematic? I cannot tell a lie - so the answer is a resounding "probably not." I'm going for progress, not perfection in the following weeks. I'll be making a total of twenty-six new vegan dishes between now and then, which will be about twenty more than I've made in the last nine months. Will this be the nudge that pushes my scrambling booty back onto the veg*n bandwagon? Stick around the find out, gang!
And because I'm curious - is anyone else out there floundering in veg-land? Anyone else struggling - or not - with their reluctant omnivore status? Drop me a line and tell me what you're up to, gang.
