I know I'm on blog vacation, but...

I couldn't stand the thought of anyone missing this one.

Peace! Back on August 1st!

Be glad you don't have to live with me right now

So, I came home from taking Bean to playgroup the other day and found my favorite purchase of the year (superseding even my new ice cream maker and my favorite pair of pants) laying in a brown envelope on my doorstep. A quick rip, and I was in nirvana - for in my hands I held the thing I had been craving since I was fifteen with a Friends shag and stack-heeled penny loafers:

Four collected seasons of The State on DVD!

If you've been following me on Twitter, you've probably already caught on that I'm a bit of a State junkie. Since this is one of those shows where you either love it or don't get it, a rational human being would be glad not to have to share a house with me at the moment. If you loved it, you would accomplish nothing because you would be on the couch with me, reciting lines along with the skits and snickering almost nonstop. If you were indifferent, you would soon grow to hate it because of severe overexposure.

Red falls into the latter camp, which is why it's quite fortunate that he's out of town at a training seminar (though he has had to listen to several renditions of "Porcupine Racetrack" during phones calls, and I did sign off tonight with "Forget it - I'm outta here!"). Bean's been coping pretty well overall. She's even doing a little bouncy dance to the theme song now. It makes me happy.

That happy news out of the way, I'm going to confess something that all of my infinitely patient and gracious followers probably figured out long ago: I have lost my way with this blog. I likely never had a way with it. This is the reason for my latest hiatus; every time I would sit down to post for that night, I would draw a big ol' blank. What was there to write about? I kept drawing a big ol' blank, so I'd put off blogging and instead get cracking on a short story instead. Next thing I knew, I'd gone for almost a month without an update. Oopsie.

So it's time to give myself a good, swift kick in the butt. Since I obviously can't be trusted to keep with an open forum for my thoughts, recipes, projects, etc, I'll just have to give myself assignments every month. Themes will vary, but I can promise that they'll probably be cooking or crafting related (you haven't seen much handiwork on this blog, have you? I'll have to change that). I'll keep up with the Friday Favorites until I run out of material, mostly because I like it and I've gotten positive feedback locally from the two I've already done. This new regime will roll out next month, which also happens to be my first vegeversary. I'll have to come up with something celebratory.

So I'm going to take the rest of July off in order to brainstorm, or maybe to just rest my brain. Or maybe just watch my new DVD's. Whatever the case, I'll tell you about it then.

Until August! And for no other reason than the fact that I like him, I leave you with a komodo dragon:
